Our history
From the moment it first opened in 1900 at the foot of the Campidoglio, Ristorante Nonna Fortunata quickly became a gathering place not only for local residents but also for prominent figures in Rome at the time. Penniless artists in search of a warm, hearty meal, intellectuals engaged in lively discussions of politics and literature, and even a few figures from the burgeoning world of Roman silent cinema found refuge among its wooden tables.
When, in 1950, her daughter decided to reopen the restaurant, carrying on the legacy of Nonna Fortunata, Rome was a different city.
