Our history

Since it first opened in 1900 at the foot of the Campidoglio, the Nonna Fortunata trattoria quickly became a landmark not only for the locals but also for prominent figures in Rome at the time. Penniless artists looking for a hot, wholesome meal, intellectuals engaged in lively discussions about politics and literature, and even a few personalities from the nascent world of Roman silent cinema found refuge among its wooden tables.

When, in 1950, her daughter decided to reopen the restaurant, carrying on the legacy of Nonna Fortunata, Rome was a different city.
